3rd ATOS Heidelberg Castle Meeting 2012: International Symposium on Hip and Knee with Live Surgery

Top international hip and knee surgeons will meet on October 11-13, 2012 at the Königssaal of the Heidelberg Castle for a professional exchange of information on the highest level. Among others, Dr. Charles Brown (knee surgeon) and Dr. Marc Phillipon (hip surgeon), both from the U.S.A., Prof. Dr. Henning Windhagen (Hanover) and Dr. Thomas Wessinghage (Bad Wiessee) are expected to come. Experts from more than 15 countries will present current results on therapeutic high-end concepts for injuries to the hip and knee joints, such as state-of-the-art developments in the fields of hip arthroscopy, donor and artificial meniscus, and cruciate ligament reconstruction, for example.

The scientific management of this high-end meeting will lie with the Center for Hip, Knee and Foot Surgery and Sports Traumatology at the ATOS Clinic Heidelberg, with PD Dr. Rainer Siebold, Prof. Dr. Hajo Thermann, PD Dr. Fritz Thorey, and Prof. Dr. Hans H. Pässler.

Ten surgeries will be electronically transmitted from the ATOS Clinic’s operating rooms to be viewed live at the Königssaal of the Heidelberg Castle. The highlights of the live surgeries will include implantation of chondrocytes in the hip and knee joints, meniscus transplantation, and anatomic knee joint prosthesis, for example. In addition, the participants will be able to enjoy exciting lectures and discussions on the treatment of ligament damage at the hip and knee to prevent early arthrosis, hip and knee joint reconstruction, and current concepts on precisely fitting endoprosthetic joint replacement.

The three-day meeting will be linked to a large industry exhibition of more than 20 participating companies at the Ottheinrichsbau of the Heidelberg Castle, informing about innovative developments in medical technology. The focus will be on the state-of-the-art products in the area of joint reconstruction and joint replacement.
